ஓம் பூர்ப்புவஸ்ஸுவ:

பர்கோ தேவஸ்ய தீமஹி
தியோ யோ ந: ப்ரசோதயாத்

AUM bhUrbhuvassuvaH

dhiyo yo naH prachOdayAt

Meaning ---
Ohm. Whomever stimulates our knowledge, let us pray the light that belongs to that God.

The word 'Om' has it's own meaning of peace and calmness.

This Gayathri Mandhiram is otherwise called as 'surya gayathri' or 'brahma gayathri'. This is the first and basic prayer. I read somewhere this while chanted 1008 times a day provokes vibrations and positive radiations and is capable of giving life. Irrespective of that, the mantra has its own effect, positively.
